Common Questions

We want to be fully transparent about our work. If you don’t see your question answered here, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

What is Restoring Children International?

Restoring Children International (RCI) is a faith-based nonprofit that operates a residential children’s home in Peru. We provide abandoned and at-risk girls with a safe, loving home, quality education, healthcare, spiritual guidance, and the support they need to build successful futures.

Where is the children’s home located?

Our home is located in Arequipa, Peru. The facility includes dormitories, classrooms, dining areas, a chapel, recreational spaces, and gardens — all designed to provide a nurturing family environment.

How are the girls selected for the program?

Girls are referred to us through government social services, churches, and community organizations. We accept girls who have been abandoned, orphaned, abused, or are living in extreme poverty with no other safe options available to them.

What ages do you serve?

We serve girls from ages 4 through 18. Many of our girls stay through high school graduation, and we continue supporting them with university scholarships and career mentoring after they leave the home.

How much does it cost to sponsor a girl?

Sponsorship is $35 per month ($420 per year). This covers the full cost of a girl’s housing, food, education, healthcare, and spiritual development. You can also make one-time gifts of any amount through our donate page.

Is my donation tax-deductible?

Yes. Restoring Children International is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. All donations are tax-deductible to the full extent allowed by law. You will receive a year-end giving statement for your tax records.

Can I visit the children’s home?

Absolutely! We welcome visitors and short-term mission teams throughout the year. Visits typically last 1–2 weeks and can be arranged by contacting us. All visitors are subject to background checks for the safety of our girls.

How can I volunteer?

We have both on-site and remote volunteer opportunities. On-site volunteers help with tutoring, mentoring, and activities at the home in Peru. Remote volunteers assist with social media, graphic design, fundraising, and administrative tasks. Visit our Volunteer page to learn more.

Who are Papa Rick and Sandra?

Rick and Sandra are the founders and directors of our children’s home. They have dedicated their lives to caring for Peru’s most vulnerable girls, serving as father and mother figures to every girl who enters the home. They live on-site and are involved in every aspect of daily life.

How is my money used?

We are committed to financial transparency. The majority of every dollar goes directly to the care of our girls — housing, food, education, and healthcare. We publish annual financial reports and are available to answer any questions about our stewardship. Visit our Impact & Transparency page for more details.

Can I write letters to my sponsored girl?

Yes! Sponsors can send letters, cards, and small gifts. We translate all correspondence into Spanish for the girls and help them write responses back to you. This personal connection is one of the most meaningful parts of sponsorship.

What happens when a girl ages out of the program?

We don’t just say goodbye at 18. RCI provides ongoing support including university scholarship assistance, career mentoring, life skills training, and emotional support as our girls transition to independent living. Many of our graduates return to volunteer and mentor younger girls.
